Our day will begin at the Ace Gap Trailhead parking area on Rich Mountain Rd. After walking a few hundred feet on road we will turn onto the Rich Mountain Trail and hike to the Scott Mountain Trail by way of the Indian Grave Gap Trail then return via the same route. 8.3 miles. Rated moderate due to a 1,600-foot climb in the first 2.3 miles, 2,100-foot total elevation gain. Meet at the Kroger location in Alcoa next to a KARM store to leave at 7:30 am or at the Ace Gap Trail parking area on Rich Mountain Rd to begin hiking at 8:15 am. Drive 40 miles RT at .07 / mile = $2.80. Carpooling is encouraged due to limited parking at the trailhead.
