Most visitors to the popular Ijams Nature Center go to see beautiful forested areas with a diversity of wildflowers, varied wildlife, and interesting cultural features. In this walk we will take a closer look at the geology of Ijams and by extension to most of the Knoxville Urban Wilderness. Walking along several trails we will examine intriguing rock bluffs and geological features including caves exposed by old quarry pits that were the site of extensive marble quarrying around the turn of the 20th century. Hike is about 3 miles, rated easy. Meet at Meads Quarry, by the restrooms at 3526 Island Home Ave in South Knoxville, 1:00pm.
