Let’s visit one of the highest water features in the park accessible by trail. Along the way, we’ll pass between the two “sentinel” tulip trees and then round the bend to the really giant tulip tree (we’ll see how many of us it takes to reach around it). We’ll admire the extensive rehabilitation that has been completed on the trail, resulting in a path somewhat easier to traverse than in the past (though nothing can be done about the steepness of the last half of the hike). If the recent dry weather continues, the cascades may not be at their peak, but they’re still an awesome sight to behold. The round trip on the trail is 8 miles with an elevation gain of 2,185 ft, rated Moderate.
To carpool, meet at the Cracker Barrel at Strawberry Plains (1510 Cracker Barrel Lane, Exit 398 off I-40; park on the right side of the lot), ready to leave at 7:30 a.m. {Drive: 78 miles RT @ 7¢/mile = $5.50}. Or meet at the Ramsey Cascades trailhead in Greenbrier at 8:45 a.m. The leader will be at the trailhead. After you register, please send the hike leader an email indicating whether you will meet at the carpool or the trailhead.
