The hike goes through deciduous and pine forest with an elevation gain of 1,200 feet. At 4.3 miles the trail intersects with the School Gap Trail which is the halfway point.

The hike is 8.6 miles and is rated moderate.

Meet at Kroger Parking lot at 8:00 am at 244 S Hall Road, Alcoa (park at the side of the building near the SE corner) or be at the trail head at 8:45 am. Carpool is 40 miles round trip. At $0.07/mile the suggested reimbursement to the driver is $3.
