On a long summer day, we will explore the Thomas Divide Trail on the North Carolina side of the Smokies. This high altitude summer hike starts at the Thomas Divide trailhead where the elevation is 4650 ft. We will climb up and down stopping at Campsite #52 for lunch, then return via the same route. Hike: 10.2 miles total, elevation gain ~2,050 ft., rated moderate to difficult. Meet at Cracker Barrel off I-40 at Exit 398 (1510 Cracker Barrel Lane, parking lot, southeast corner) at 7:00am, or at the Thomas Divide trailhead at 8:30am. [Drive 104 miles RT @ 7ยข/mile=$7.30].
