In October of 1924, 20 hikers, under the auspices of the Knoxville YMCA, climbed to Mt LeConte for an overnight stay, and conceived the idea of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club. Our organization has grown and thrived, now for 100 years, and we will honor SMHC throughout 2024!

SMHC invites you to celebrate 100 years of hiking, fellowship, volunteerism, and conservation within our Great Smoky Mountains and beyond.

We will host several special events throughout the year, including a variety of commemorative hikes, social gatherings and service projects, as well as centennial merchandise and even our very own locally brewed beer!
